CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins College women's basketball team fought hard but ultimately came up short against the University of Charleston, falling 68-56 in Mountain East Conference play on Saturday evening at H. Bernard Wehrle Arena.
Senior Josiany Canales led the Senators (1-13, 1-8 MEC) with a team-high 15 points, including three 3-pointers, while adding four rebounds in 33 minutes. Freshman Jahniya Marion contributed 10 points and two rebounds, while senior Jackie Wright also tallied 10 points and grabbed five boards. Senior LaChazity Shaver was a defensive standout, recording four steals and four assists to go along with nine points.
D&E battled back in the third quarter, outscoring Charleston 20-22, led by Canales' outside shooting and Shaver's key defensive plays. However, a strong fourth quarter by UC sealed the win for the home team.
