Concord Edges D&E Women 73-69

ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins women's basketball team put forth a valiant effort at the McDonnell Center on Saturday but fell just short against Concord University, 73-69, in a thrilling Mountain East Conference matchup.

Senior forward Jackie Wright led the Senators with a standout performance, recording a near double-double of 19 points and 8 rebounds. Wright's efforts in the paint kept D&E competitive throughout the game.

Freshman standout Jahniya Marion provided an offensive spark, contributing 12 points on 6-of-15 shooting. Her ability to penetrate the defense and create scoring opportunities was pivotal in the Senators' strong showing.

Senior guard LaChazity Shaver added 8 points, including two crucial three-pointers that helped keep the game within reach during critical moments. Senior Alexis Smith also made her presence felt on both ends of the court with 10 points, 4 steals, and 3 rebounds.

Despite their efforts, the Senators struggled to contain Concord's Abbie Smith, who posted a game-high 19 points and 19 rebounds for the Mountain Lions. Concord capitalized on second-chance opportunities and a balanced scoring attack to secure the victory.

Davis & Elkins kept themselves competitive throughout the game, cutting into Concord's lead multiple times. They held the edge in fast-break points (13) and dominated in the paint offensively with 42 points.

D&E's record falls to 1-12 overall, 1-6 in conference while Concord posts a .500 record at 7-7, 3-3 MEC.
