WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins College edged West Liberty University 2-1 on Sunday, securing back-to-back wins and their first conference win in a tightly contested match at the West Family Complex.
The Senators took the lead in the 36th minute when freshman Francisco Lopez Kreik found the back of the net with his first career goal and first of the season. Davis & Elkins held firm for the remainder of the first half, despite consistent pressure from the Hilltoppers.
West Liberty responded in the 55th minute with a goal to level the score at 1-1. However, Davis & Elkins regained control late in the second half. Freshman Santiago Maiolo scored the game-winner in the 90th minute off a pinpoint assist from senior Dominique Castano, lifting the Senators to a 2-1 victory.
Senior goalkeeper Dante Ordenes recorded one save in the win, helping the Senators improve to 2-0-0 on the season. West Liberty's goalkeeper Colton Callen made eight saves in a valiant effort for the Hilltoppers, who dropped to 0-2-1.
Davis & Elkins dominated offensively with 21 shots, 10 of which were on target, while West Liberty managed eight shots in total.
