ELKINS, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College women's soccer team came up short in a tightly contested 1-0 loss to Pitt.-Johnstown on Thursday afternoon at Nuttall Field, Head Coach Keenan Schaeffer's first game leading the Senators.
D&E had seven shots, with Andrea Stanziola leading the attack, recording two shots, including one on goal. Catalina Salas also had a pair of shots, but neither found the back of the net. Goalkeeper Monica Birkelund made four saves for Davis & Elkins, including two key stops in the second half to keep the Senators within striking distance.
The Senators had several chances down the stretch as they dominated possession of the ball late in the second half, threatening to score on two separate corner kick set-pieces but ultimately coming up just short.
The goalkeeper for the Mountain Cats, Emma Morin, posted a clean sheet with two saves.
Davis & Elkins falls to 0-1 on the season and will look to bounce back in their next match.
