ATHENS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins women's soccer team fought valiantly but ultimately fell 5-0 to Concord University in a tough road matchup on Sunday afternoon at Callaghan Stadium.
Despite the scoreline, the Senators displayed a determined effort, with goalkeeper Monica Birkelund making two saves in the first half to keep it close early on. Alexa Karsel led the attack for D&E, recording three shots, including one on goal.
Concord (2-2-1, 2-0-1 MEC) managed to break through just before halftime, scoring twice in quick succession, with Sydney Tucker netting the first in the 39th minute and Marika Svensson following up a minute later.
In the second half, the Senators pressed forward and earned two corner kicks, but Concord extended their lead with three more goals. Svensson scored her second of the day in the 59th minute, followed by Leah Fleming and Tucker sealing the win with goals in the 64th and 77th minutes, respectively.
The Senators move to 0-5-0, 0-3-0 MEC with the loss.
