Bristol, TN -- The Senator baseball team opened up their season against King University in Bristol, TN with a three game series over the weekend. Unfortunately, a combination of inexperience, limited practice time outside and tough weather conditions proved to be too tough for the Senators as they dropped all three games to open the season.
Game 1 vs King University 23-0 Loss
Jake Garrett got the ball on the mound for the Senators to start the season and threw very well over 3 innings. Unfortunately, an error to lead off the bottom of the 3rd inning would allow 3 unearned runs to score as the Senators would fall behind 3-0 after three innings.
Bronson Ferencak would enter the game in the fourth inning to make his college debut. He had a chance to get out of the inning only allowing 1 earned run but another error would extend the inning and the next batter would hit a 3-run homerun to put the Tornados ahead 7-0. The rest of the game would be about getting a lot of new faces playing time and experience.
Game 2 vs King University 8-2 Loss
Dariell Melendez-Perez would make his college debut on the mound for the Senators in game 2 of the series. The Senators defense would once again put them in a hole as an error would allow 2 unearned runs to score in the bottom of the first inning.
Trailing 4-0 in the top of the 4th inning the Senators offense would put together their best output of the weekend.
Larry Kusan and
Aydin Zimmerman would walk to start the inning.
Logan Bradish would pick up his first college hit and RBI as he drove a 2-out single up the middle to score Kusan and Zimmerman to make the score 4-2.
The Tornados would add on 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning which included 2 more unearned runs to take a 7-2 lead and put the game out of reach.
Game 3 vs King University 10-2 Loss
The final game of the series would follow a similar script as the first two as the Senators would give up 7 unearned runs over the course of the game to fall 10-2.
Ethan Marshall would get the start on the mound and pitch well in his college debut. He would throw 3 innings only allowing 2 earned runs but would exit with the game with the Senators trailing 6-1.Â
The Senator offense would only be able to collect two hits on the day with
Cort Kegley hitting a double and
Tanner Cook had an infield single.
Fletcher Hindman would add a sac fly to drive in the only RBI for the Senators.
