ELKINS, W.Va. — Despite a strong fourth-quarter push, the Davis & Elkins College women's basketball team fell to Wheeling University (5-3, 2-0 MEC) 79-63 in Mountain East Conference play Wednesday night at the McDonnell Center.
Sophia Toscano led the Senators with an impressive performance off the bench, scoring 13 points, including three three-pointers. Josiany Canales filled the stat sheet, with nine points, five rebounds, three steals and a block, despite getting into early foul trouble. Rebecca Kaba contributed nine points and three rebounds, while Jahniya Marion added seven points and two assists to the effort.
D&E's defense came alive in the second half, highlighted by Jocelyn Gagnon's two blocks and two steals, helping the Senators outscore Wheeling 21-7 in the final quarter. The Senators also made strides in transition, turning turnovers into 27 points, but their early deficit proved too much to overcome.
