WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — Despite a determined third-quarter surge, the Davis & Elkins College women's basketball team fell to West Liberty University (4-5, 2-1 MEC), 93-60, on Saturday evening at the ASRC in a Mountain East Conference matchup.
The Senators (0-8, 0-4 MEC) showed resilience, scoring 23 points in the third quarter, their highest-scoring period, after trailing 40-22 at halftime. Jahniya Marion led the team with 12 points, shooting 6-of-15 from the field, while LaChazity Shaver added 10 points, including a three-pointer, and pulled down six rebounds. Jocelyn Gagnon also contributed with eight points and three rebounds in 20 minutes.
Rebecca Kaba provided a spark off the bench, scoring eight points on an efficient 4-of-5 shooting and collecting three rebounds. The Senators' bench contributed 29 points overall, showcasing their depth.
D&E struggled to contain West Liberty's perimeter shooting, allowing 15 three-pointers on the night. Despite being out-rebounded 52-39, the Senators displayed grit on the boards, grabbing 11 offensive rebounds.
