ERIE, Pa. -- The Davis & Elkins College women's basketball team opened their season at the Atlantic Region Challenge, falling to Slippery Rock at the Hagerty Family Events Center at host site Gannon University on Saturday, with a final score of 79-42.
D&E struggled to find an offensive rhythm early, managing only six points in the first quarter, while Slippery Rock pulled ahead with a strong 26-point start. Despite a stronger showing in the second quarter, where the Senators tallied 16 points, they were unable to close the gap.
Freshman Jocelyn Gagnon led the Senators with nine points, including two three-pointers, and added two rebounds and two blocks. Senior Josiany Canales also contributed nine points and grabbed five rebounds. Davis & Elkins showed some defensive resilience, totaling five blocks, but struggled with turnovers, committing 19 in the game.
