FAIRMONT, W. Va. — The Davis & Elkins College women's basketball team faced a tough challenge against Fairmont State University at Joe Retton Arena on Tuesday night, falling 75-42 in Mountain East Conference play.
Jahniya Marion led the Senators' offense with a team-high 8 points, shooting 4-of-11 from the field while adding 4 rebounds and 1 steal in 34 minutes of play. Josiany Canales matched Marion's scoring output with 8 points of her own, including a perfect 2-for-2 from the free-throw line, while contributing 5 rebounds and a steal.
Sophia Toscano provided a spark off the bench with 5 points, including a fast-break jumper early in the second quarter, and Jackie Wright added 6 points and a team-best 7 rebounds in 23 minutes of action.
Defensively, Davis & Elkins tallied 11 steals, with Kylie Morris and Toscano each recording two. LaChazity Shaver, Alexis Smith, and others showed hustle on the boards, helping the Senators finish with 40 total rebounds.
Despite their efforts, Davis & Elkins struggled to find consistency offensively, shooting 26.6% from the field and committing 29 turnovers. The Senators' bench, however, contributed 34 of the team's 42 points, highlighting the depth and potential for future matchups.
