Women's Basketball Falls Short To Pitt-Johnstown

ELKINS, W.Va. — Pitt.-Johnstown capitalized on a strong second quarter and balanced scoring to defeat Davis & Elkins, 82-68, in a non-conference women's basketball matchup Saturday afternoon at the McDonnell Center.

The Senators (0-4) opened strong, taking a 21-13 lead after the first quarter, but the Mountain Cats (1-3) responded with a dominant 23-9 second quarter, building momentum they carried throughout the game.

Freshman Jocelyn Gagnon led the way for Davis & Elkins, scoring 17 points on 5-for-7 shooting from beyond the arc, while freshman Jahniya Marion added 17 points of her own, going 6-for-14 from the field. Senior Jackie Wright chipped in 14 points and six rebounds, providing a spark off the bench. Despite the efforts, turnovers plagued the Senators, who committed 20 on the day.

The Senators showed flashes, particularly in the first and third quarters, but the Mountain Cats' 36 rebounds and efficient three-point shooting (8-for-13) proved too much to overcome. Pitt.-Johnstown also made their mark at the free-throw line, converting 24 of 32 attempts.

The Senators will look to regroup as they open conference play next week, aiming to secure their first victory of the season.
