ERIE, Pa. -- The Davis & Elkins College women's basketball faced off against Mercyhurst on Nov. 12 at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center, falling short with a final score of 67-51. The Senators kept it close in the first half, trailing by just two points at halftime with a score of 31-30. However, a slow third quarter with only seven points allowed Mercyhurst to build a lead that Davis & Elkins could not overcome.
Josiany Canales led the Senators with a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds before fouling out. Alexis Smith added 11 points, three assists, and three steals, while Jocelyn Gagnon and Rebecca Kaba chipped in with five and seven points, respectively. Despite their efforts, the Senators struggled from the field, shooting 30.9% overall and 19% from beyond the arc.
Davis & Elkins battled but was ultimately outpaced in points in the paint (44-22) and fast break points (8-2), with Mercyhurst capitalizing on these opportunities. The Senators are now 0-3 on the season and will look to bounce back in their next matchup.
