FAIRMONT, W. Va. -- The Davis & Elkins College women's soccer team (1-11-1, 0-9-1) fell to Fairmont State University (7-5-1, 6-4-0) in a 2-0 defeat at Duvall-Rosier Field in Fairmont, West Virginia, on October 20. The game saw Fairmont State score both goals in the second half.
Despite a strong defensive effort from D&E goalkeeper Monica Birkelund, who recorded six saves across 90 minutes, the Senators could not overcome Fairmont's persistent attack. The Falcons opened the scoring in the 49th minute with an unassisted goal. Less than 10 minutes later, they sealed the victory with a second goal at the 58 minute mark.
D&E managed only one shot throughout the match, a first-half effort by Andrea Stanziola, which missed the target. Fairmont dominated offensively, registering 19 shots, including 8 on goal.
Fairmont State maintained pressure with multiple corner kicks (13 total) and controlled much of the game's tempo. The Senators were unable to create enough offensive chances to challenge Fairmont's goalkeeper, Olivia Johnston, who earned a shutout without recording any saves.
