WEST LIBERTY, W.Va.— Davis & Elkins dropped both ends of a road baseball doubleheader to the Hilltoppers of West Liberty University on Sunday.
 
GAME ONE
Davis & Elkins lost the lead late in a 4-1 defeat to West Liberty. The game was tied at one with West Liberty batting in the bottom of the sixth when Trevor Thomas hit a solo homer.
 
Davis & Elkins lost despite out-hitting West Liberty eight to five.
 
Davis & Elkins got things started in the second inning when Fletcher Hindman doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.
 
In the bottom of the second inning, West Liberty tied things up at one. Garrett Scott doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
 
Justin Pennybacker led things off on the pitcher's mound for West Liberty. The ace allowed eight hits and one run over seven innings, striking out 13 in the win.
 
Zach McGillan was on the pitcher's mound for Davis & Elkins. McGillan lasted five innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out five and walking one. Brycen Sechler threw one inning in relief and suffered the loss.
 
Connor Hyde led Davis & Elkins, going 3 for 3; while Fletcher Hindman and Wes Athey each had doubles in the game.
 
GAME TWO
Davis & Elkins watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 10-3 loss in game two. West Liberty pulled away with five runs in the second inning. 
 
Ian Brady led things off on the pitcher's mound for West Liberty University. The hurler went six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, striking out five and walking one in the win.
 
Matthew Colon was on the hill for Davis & Elkins. Colon surrendered nine runs on 11 hits over four and a third innings, striking out two in the loss. Payton McCourt threw one and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen.
 
Cole Hitch picked up his first homerun of the season with a four bagger in the third inning.
 
Davis & Elkins totaled nine hits in the game. Fletcher Hindman, Dezmon Johnson, and Hitch each had two hits in the game.
