NUTTER FORT, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins went on the road for a nine-inning non-conference game with Salem University for their third play date in as many days and came away with a 12-4 win, their fourth in a row.

Salem jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

D&E answered and took the lead in the top of the second when Johnson singled in
Alex Amodeo and
Connor Hyde singled in
Fletcher Hindman. Salem tied it up at 2-2 in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single of their own.

The Senators extended the lead in the third inning when Spearen singled and drove in
Cort Kegley and
Zach Owens. In the bottom of the inning, Salem scored a run on an RBI single and D&E led 4-3.

Following a scoreless fourth inning, D&E scored again in the fifth on a Kegley single that plated
Lucas Myford.
Â
D&E tacked on another run in the sixth inning when
Larry Kusan singled and scored
Dezmon Johnson, moving the score to 6-3.

The teams were once again scoreless in the seventh inning and D&E put another run on the board in the eighth on a Hyde sacrifice fly that scored Spearen.

A five-run ninth inning put the game out of reach. Amodeo was first to cross the plate following a Hindman single. Hindman then advanced to second on a wild pitch and
Jake Spearen scored. Johnson then walked and advanced to third when Kusan singled and Hindman scored. Kusan stole second and Johnson scored. Finally, Hyde singled driving in Kusan and D&E took a 12-3 lead.

Salem tacked on one more run in the bottom of the ninth to make it 12-4.

Kusan had three hits and an RBI in the game. Hyde had two hits and three RBIs. Spearen had two hits and an RBI.

Wes Athey picked up the win for the Senators.

The Senators are scheduled to play a doubleheader at West Liberty University on Saturday, March 25. First pitch is set for 1pm.
