WHEELING, W.Va. -- Junior
Kaylee Milburn's career-high 19 points weren't enough to help Davis & Elkins overcome the undefeated Wheeling Cardinals on the road.
Wheeling continued its hot play in its Mountain East Conference women's basketball matchup with D&E as the two came out scoring in bulk in the first period. Wheeling led going into the second quarter 31-21.
The pace slowed a bit in the second frame as the Senators outscored Wheeling 15-13, but trailed 44-36 heading to the locker room.
The Cardinals poured in 24 points to D&E's 8 in the third quarter to go up by 24 heading into the final quarter.
D&E chipped into the lead a bit in the fourth quarter 22-14 and fell 82-66.
Milburn, whose previous best outing was a 17-point performance last season, added 6 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 assists, and 1 steal.
Madison Butler had 14 points for the Senators in just 17 minutes on 4 of 9 shooting and 6 of 6 from the free throw line. She added 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, and a steal.
Josiany Canales and
Angel Broadus each had 11 points. Canales added 7 rebounds, while Broadus had 5.
Jackie Wright contributed 8 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals.
