ELKINS, W.Va. -- The Davis & Elkins Women's Basketball Team welcomed undefeated Fairmont State on Tuesday evening and dropped a conference showdown 86-71.

The Falcons led 51-34 at halftime, outscoring the Senators 27-16 and 24-18 by quarter. They held a 29-point advantage with just 1:40 remaining, but D&E chipped away at the lead in the fourth quarter on 11 of 19 shooting (57.89%) to draw within 15 before the final buzzer.

Taylor Smith and Alexis Smith each scored 16 points in the game. Taylor Smith added 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Alexis Smith added 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals, and was 6 of 6 from the free throw line.

LaChazity Shaver posted 9 points and 7 rebounds. Her points all came from three pointers, as she was 3 for 6 from beyond the arc.

Jackie Wright and Madison Butler chipped in 8 points apiece.
