Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Senators Down #6 Concord

BECKLEY, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins jumped on the scoreboard early and then defended well in a huge Mountain East Conference win on the road over a highly-ranked Concord University.

Head Coach Kiko Magana's game plan seemed simple but was a tall order against a Mountain Lion squad that recently jumped to sixth in the Nation in the United Soccer Coaches poll. The goal was to get out early and then defend.

The Senators' first goal came at just the 27-second mark when sophomore Sachiko Gamo took a pass in stride outside of the penalty arc and pounded it into the right side of the goal beyond the outstretched arms of the diving keeper.

Alexa Karsel continued her hot play and scored again in the sixteenth minute. This time, the goal came when the Mountain Lion keeper dived to deflect a Seika Ikezoe shot and Karsel gather the deflection to kick it over the keeper and squarely in to the back of the net. Karsel had now scored a goal in three straight games.

Concord's Olivia Bekeleski scored in the thirty-fifth minute on a high-arcing kick after a pair of deflections following a corner kick.

The Senators took a 2-1 lead into halftime and would hold on to win by the same score.

Concord took eighteen shots to D&E's eleven. All eleven of D&E's shots were on goal.

D&E goalkeeper Katie Clarke had ten saves in the contest.

The win moves the Senators to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in Mountain East Conference play.

Next up, D&E faces West Virginia State University at home on Thursday, September 15 at 5pm.
