D&E Women's Soccer Dealt Home Setback

ELKINS, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins battled with three quick goals apiece in the early onset with the visiting Yellowjackets f West Virginia State University, but after a costly red card in the twenty-first minute, the Senators gave up another six goals and fell 9-3.

West Virginia State was first to score on a goal by Esther Dhiramo in the fourty-first minute. She was assisted by Fran Soares-Cupertino.

D&E shifted the momentum back in their favor with a pair of goals to go up 2-1. Maria Leguizamon and Alexa Karsel each scored and Danielle Grimmer assisted them both.
Soares-Cupertino leveled the score with an unassisted blast in the eleventh minute.

The Yellowjackets' Dhiramo scored her second goal of the game in the fourteenth minute off an Ingrid Barbosa de Castro assist and then D&E's Karsel scored her second of the contest in the seventeenth minute unassisted.

Midway through the first half, D&E goalkeeper Katie Clarke was red-carded when she fouled Dhiramo. D&E had to pull a player to go a player down and subbed Abril Gerenschtein into goal.
Gerenschtein added a spark when she successfully defended the goal on a diving stop during the ensuing penalty kick. The two teams battled back-and-forth for the remainder of the half and West Virginia State was able to muster an additional goal as Dhiramo completed a first half hat trick.

The Senators went into the half down 4-3.
