ELKINS, W.Va. -- Following twenty-three sets and thirteen and one-half hours, Day One of the Top Hat Classic came to a close and Davis & Elkins earned its first two wins of the 2022 season.
D&E made short order of Lock Haven in the third match of the day, winning in three sets, 25-17, 25-15, 25-17.

In the final match of the day, D&E jumped out to a 2-0 lead over Virginia State 25-13, 25-15. Virginia State jumped out to a quick start in the third set before the Senators came storming back to tie the game late. Virginia State pull back ahead and won the third set 26-24. D&E finished out the night with a one-sided 25-12 fourth set to secure the win.

Also finishing 2-0 on the day were Elizabeth City State University (3-1 over Lock Haven and 3-1 over Glenville State) and Seton Hill University (3-2 over Glenville State and 3-0 over Virginia State).
