ELKINS, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins pushed their win streak to four as they enjoyed an undefeated opening weekend at the Top Hat Classic.
Opening Day Two of the Classic, the Senators handed Elizabeth City State its first loss of the season in a four-set match. D&E's
Macie Magallon was the match leader in aces with 15, while
Mariah Autobee led with 13 digs.
Brilane Manchego added 38 assists; 22 more than any other player.
In the Top Hat Classic finale, D&E and Seton Hill traded blows and went to five sets before the Senators pulled away late. D&E won the first two sets 25-20 and 25-18. Seton Hill knotted the match at two sets apiece with wins in set three (25-8) and set four (25-18). In the final set, D&E put the Griffins away, 15-10. Magallon once again led the match in kills with 21. Manchego led the match in assists (48) and
Clara Caralt led the match in digs (23).
For the twelve-match tournament, Seton Hill picked up three wins, with their only loss coming to D&E in the final match. Both Elizabeth City State and Glenville State went 2-2 in the tournament. Virginia State finished 1-3 in the tournament and Lock Haven finished the tournament at 0-4.
The Senators return to action September 2-3 in the Steel City Showcase in Pueblo, Colorado.
