INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College baseball team dropped the first two games of a four-game series today at West Virginia State University. D&E fell 10-4 in game one and dropped the night cap game 14-7.
Game One
The Yellow Jackets scored six runs in the first two innings and led 6-1. D&E scored three in the top of the third to make it 6-4 after three complete innings. WVSU would add a run in the fifth and three in the sixth to earn a 10-4 Mountain East Conference win.
Luis Diaz went 1-3 with an RBI.
Kamien Gonzalez added an RBI single.
Zachary Higgins and
Larry Kusan each had one hit.
Game Two
West Virginia State scored eight runs in the first inning. The Yellow Jackets added four runs in the third to make it 12-0 after three complete innings.
Lucas Myford would get the Senators on the board in the sixth inning, drawing a bases loaded walk. Gonzalez would drive in two more with a single down the left field line. State would add two runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it 14-3 after six complete innings.
Wesley Athey connected on a two-run homer over the left field fence to make it 14-5. Later in the inning Gonzalez would triple down the right field line bringing in two more runs later.
Gonzalez went 3-4 with two singles and a triple. Gonzalez also had four RBIs. Athey had two RBIs going 2-2 at the plate with a single and the homer.
Cole Hitch went 2-3 and scored twice.
Anthony Laney and Higgins each had a hit.
Davis & Elkins falls to 6-32 overall and 3-23 in the MEC.
The Yellow Jackets improve to 22-17 and 14-12 in the league.
The two teams meet again tomorrow for a doubleheader. First pitch is schedule for 1:00pm.
