ATHENS, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College women's basketball team traveled to Concord University Saturday for a Mountain East Conference game. The Mountain Lions utilized a strong third quarter to secure the win.
Concord jumped out to an early 11-4 lead. D&E would battle back and trailed 20-17 after 10 minutes of play. The two teams traded buckets in the second quarter and the Mountain Lions led 36-33 at the break. The Senators would take a one-point lead (37-36) on a
Marissa Berlin jumper with 8:23 left in the third quarter. Concord led 42-41 with 6:19 remaining in the quarter, they would end period on a 12-3 run to take a 10-point lead (54-44) into the final quarter. The Senators would cut the lead to six but could get no closer. The Mountain Lions would take the contest by the score of 66-55.
Davis & Elkins was led by
Peyton Mohler. Mohler finished the game with 13 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists.
Allie Taylor and Berlin each had 11 points.
Dream Cherry pulled down eight rebounds.
Riley Fitzwater led Concord with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Maddie Ratcliff finished with 12 points.
D&E falls to 6-19 overall and 3-17 in the MEC.
The Mountain Lions improve to 19-9 overall and 12-8 in the league.
The Senators return home Wednesday hosting Frostburg State on Senior Night. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
