WHEELING, W.Va. – Back on December 1
st, 2021, the Wheeling Cardinals defeated the Senators 82-54. Today, Coach
Rachel Swartz and her Senator basketball team traveled to Wheeling and came away with a 62-53 win.
The Cardinals jumped out to an early 10-2 lead, but Davis & Elkins bounced back and tied the game 10-10 at the end of the first quarter. Wheeling out scored the Senators 15-11 in the second quarter to take a 25-21 lead to the locker room. D&E went on a 16-0 run midway through the third quarter and led 44-33 heading into the final quarter. The Cardinals would cut the lead to five with 54 seconds left (58-53), but
Dream Cherry would seal the win connecting on four free throws.
Cherry led the Senators with 20 points.
Peyton Mohler continued her strong play scoring 16 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out four assists.
Marissa Berlin finished with 14 points, all in the second half and had eight rebounds.
Lauren Calhoun led Wheeling with 28 points and 12 rebounds followed by Shamia Strayhorn 18.
D&E improves to 5-13 overall and 2-11 in the Mountain East Conference.
Wheeling drops to 5-12 overall and 5-8 in the conference.
The Senators return home Monday night hosting West Virginia State. Tip-off is slated for 6:00pm inside the McDonnell Center.
