Rachel Swartz's Senator basketball team played host to the West Liberty Hilltoppers on Wednesday night in Mountain East Conference action. West Liberty pulled away in the fourth quarter to earn an 87-54 road win.
The Hilltoppers ended the first quarter on a 14-4 run and led 21-11. Davis & Elkins cut the lead to six on a Lachazity Shaver layup at the 9:31 mark of the second quarter. West Liberty would extend their lead to 15 at the break (42-27). D&E would get the lead cut to 11 (50-39) with 4:15 left in the third quarter but could get no closer.
The Senators were led by
Peyton Mohler's 18 points. Mohler was 6-8 from the floor and 4-5 from the free throw line.
Marissa Berlin had 12 points and seven rebounds.
Dream Cherry had seven points and three assists.
West Liberty's Audrey Tingle had a triple-double with 11 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists. Arriana Manzay and Karly McCutcheon each had 16 points.
With the loss D&E drops to 4-13 overall and 1-11 in the MEC.
West Liberty improves to 14-5 overall and 9-4 in the league.
D&E hits the road this Saturday traveling north to face Wheeling. Gametime is scheduled for 2:00pm.
