Elkins, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins women's basketball team battled Concord hard throughout Saturday's Mountain East Conference contest. In the end the Senators fell to the Mountain Lions 81-66.
Concord led by nine after the first quarter 19-10. The Mountain Lions ended the second quarter on a 16-9 run to extend their lead to 16 at the break, 45-29.
Coach
Rachel Swartz's Senators opened the third quarter on a 12-3 run to cut the CU lead to just seven, 48-41. A Concord timeout with 5:14 left in the quarter didn't slow the D&E run. The Senators cut the Mountain Lion lead to two and trailed by just four at the end of third, 59-55. Concord opened the fourth quarter on a 11-3 run and outscored the Senators 22-11 in the quarter.
D&E was led by
Dream Cherry with 20 points, followed by
Peyton Mohler 17 points and eight assists.
Allie Taylor had nine points and a team high seven rebounds.
Riley Fitzwater led the way for CU with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Maddie Ratcliff and Jaisah Smith each had 13 points.
Davis & Elkins falls to 3-10 with the loss, and 0-8 in the MEC. Concord improves to 12-4 overall, and 7-3 in the league.
The Senators remain home for their next MEC game, hosting West Virginia State on Monday night at the McDonnell Center.
