ELKINS, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins Director of Soccer Dean Johnson announced the addition of Gonzalo Santa Martinez as an assistant coach for the men's and women's programs. 

Martinez, a former standout collegiate goalie, will work with the goalkeepers on both D&E soccer programs in addition to assisting Johnson in the day-to-day aspects of the program. 

"We are very excited to have Gonzalo joining us this fall," Johnson said. "He brings great experience, having played at a very high level and we believe he is one of the top young goalkeeper coaches in the country right now. We are very excited for him to arrive and start working with our teams to help us compete at the highest level." 

Martinez completed a decorated playing career, winning a national championship as a goalie at the NJCAA level before transferring to NAIA Wayland Baptist for the 2019 season. 

"I am glad to join D&E for the fall 2021 season as the new goalkeeping coach for the men's and women's soccer team," Martinez said. "I am very excited to have this opportunity and look forward to putting all my effort, dedication and experience to achieve great success here." 

Martinez compiled an .833 save percentage and posted three shutouts during the 2019 campaign in goal. 

He works as the owner of Advance Goalkeeper, a brand that provides gloves, advice, training and coaching for goalkeepers.
