Women's Soccer Powers Past Alderson Broaddus Behind Second Half Push

ELKINS, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins women's soccer scored both goals in the second half in a 2-0 shutout victory over Alderson Broaddus at a frigid Nuttall Field on Friday evening.

Davis & Elkins (3-3) posted its third win via shutout and completed the regular season sweep of Alderson Broaddus (0-4-1) with the victory. Alexa Karsel continued her torrid offensive stretch by recording the opening marker of the evening in the 54th minute before Azalea Ayala added the insurance tally off a pass from Daniella Barbetta in the 76th minute.

The Senators held a 22-4 edge in shots, placing eight on frame and insulating keeper Anna Kerth throughout the conference contest. Kerth made an early stop before the D&E offense gained possession for the majority of the opening half, with attempts from Roxanne McFarlin, Karsel and Tamsin Medd-Gill

The Senators continued to pepper AB keeper Alexis McKeown in the opening half as the score remained tied. Ayala had two quick attempts in the opening moments of the second halfas D&E continued to mount the pressure.

Karsel played the ball off a deflection, worked into position and laced her third goal of the season in the 54th minute for a 1-0 lead. AB answered with an attempt of its own in the 59th minute that bounced wide past the left post.

Alexandra Cantarelli rang an attempt off the post in the 75th minute as the score remained 1-0. Barbetta took the space available to her and played a well-struck pass through the box to the waiting foot of Ayala, who chipped one into the net for the 2-0 edge.

The Battlers had one final chance miss the net with less than one minute left as D&E preserved the shutout.

D&E is back on the pitch on Friday, April 9 for a 6:00 PM road clash at Frostburg State.
