FROSTBURG, Md. -- The 15th-ranked Davis & Elkins men's soccer team outmatched Frostburg State in a 2-0 road victory on Friday night at a crisp Bobcat Stadium.
Davis & Elkins (5-1) expanded its winning streak to three consecutive games, outscoring opponents 6-1 over that span. Frostburg (2-4) was playing its first home game in about a month, but struggled to generate many quality looks.
The Senators received a sensational strike from
Martin Lago in the 29th minute of a feed from
Kenshiro Yamaguchi. Later,
Anderson Marroquin netted his third marker off the season, burying a pass from
Yavi Ortiz in the 64th minute for the 2-0 advantage.
D&E held a 19-2 edge in shots, posting 12 attempts on frame. Marroquin outpaced the Frostburg offense on his own with seven shots and four attempts on goal.
The Senators ripped the first three shots of the game in the opening 25 minutes before Lago lasered one to the top right corner for the first-half lead. The Senators did not concede much to the Bobcats as things progressed into the second half.
Marroquin rung one off the left post in the 47th minute as the Senators kept pushing forward. The team-leader in goals cashed in for the 2-0 lead as D&E went on cruise control for the rest of the game.
D&E is back in action on Sunday, April 11 for a rescheduled matchup with Alderson Broaddus at 6:00 PM.
