GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins baseball hit the road for the second time this weekend, heading back to Glenville for another doubleheader, splitting with the Pioneers after a 13-7 win in game one and 6-1 defeat in the nightcap.
Davis & Elkins (5-11) scored all of its game one runs in the fourth inning, racking up 13 markers in the frame. While Glenville scored three runs in the bottom of the third to take an early lead, the Senators continued smacking singles with
Christian Ortega (twice),
Najay King (twice),
Zachary Higgins,
Max Larimore,
Ryan Savitt,
Alex Castaneda,
Chase DeGrood and
John Arcaro all crossing home in the inning.
Zachary McGillian earned the win with 6.0 innings on the mound, collecting five strikeouts.
Rory Burke came on to close out the seventh for D&E, adding a strikeout.
The Pioneers whittled away with runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh, ultimately falling short in game one 13-7.
Casteneda, DeGrood, Ortega and Higgins each collected three hits on the day for D&E.
Glenville (13-8) starter Tamariz Diego shut down D&E in game two, limiting the Senators to a pair of hits in the nightcap.
Glenville brought in three runs in the bottom of the third, adding one more in the fourth and two in the fifth. Savitt smacked a solo home run in the seventh to account for the final 6-1 margin.
D&E is home against Charleston on April 17 for a home doubleheader with first pitch set for 1:00 PM.
