ELKINS, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins volleyball remained unbeaten at home with a straight-set victory against Concord on Thursday night inside the McDonnell Center.
Davis & Elkins pushes its record to 7-2 on the season and Concord falls to 0-8. The Senators took the match in set scores of 25-17, 25-17, 25-23 over the Mountain Lions in a rescheduled game from earlier
Macie Magallon cracked 12 kills and hit .400 in the process as one of five Senators with five or more kills.
Amaya Morales had an excellent outing with eight kills and a pair of aces.
Brianna Portley finished with nine kills and
Mya Mintschenko had eight kills of her own.
Brilane Manchego passed out 33 assists and added a service ace for the Senators.
Davis & Elkins posted a season-high 11 service aces on the night, also holding a 42-22 edge in kills.
D&E opened a 6-2 lead in the first set before Concord rallied to take an 8-6 lead. D&E pushed back with the next four points, with a kill from Mintschenko and two from Portley, for a 10-8 edge. A 5-0 spurt that included a service ace from
Cynthia Arango made it 17-13 in favor of D&E and the hosts held on for the 25-17 set one win.
Things were back and forth in the second set before the Senators separated themselves with a 12-1 outburst to claim the frame. D&E scored the final 10 points of the second set with Portley and Magallon posting kills in addition to a pair of aces for
Maria Isabel Butruce Candiota.
D&E started the third set with a 4-0 advantage until Concord made it 5-4. CU posted seven straight markers for a 23-18 margin before the Senators rattled off the final seven points for the sweep.
Mariah Autobee had three aces in the final surge for D&E to close out the sweep.
Davis & Elkins finishes the regular season on Friday, March 5 at home against West Virginia Wesleyan. First serve is slated for 7:00 PM.
