Volleyball Ends Regular Season Unbeaten at Home With Sweep of WV Wesleyan

ELKINS, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins volleyball concluded the regular season with a 3-0 sweep of West Virginia Wesleyan on Senior Night inside the McDonnell Center.
 
Davis & Elkins concludes the regular season and will head into the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Tournament with an 8-2 mark. D&E finishes 6-0 at home, winning each of its final four matches inside the McDonnell Center in straight sets.
 
Macie Magallon posted 16 kills and hit .310 to guide the Senators and Amaya Morales finished with another solid effort with 11 kills and three aces. Brilane Manchego dished out 33 assists, added a pair of aces and six digs for D&E.
 
Seniors Mya Mintschenko, Cynthia Arango and Luann O'Kane were recognized following the sweep.
 
West Virginia Wesleyan (6-4) was led by Emily Doyle's 10 kills, while Payton Hefner added 17 assists.
 
Things were highly contested to start as WVWC opened up an 11-8 edge that ballooned to 15-9. D&E responded with a 4-0 run, including an ace for Morales and a kill from Maria Isabel Butruce Candiota, to bring the Senators back to within 16-14.
 
Wesleyan answered again in the first set, moving ahead 19-14, before D&E eventually found its footing with a 8-2 surge to cap the set and battle back for a 1-0 match lead. Mintschenko and Magallon had kills and Manchego added an ace in the late rally as the Senators took momentum early.
 
A kill from Morales preceded an ace, pushing the Senators to a 6-3 lead in the second set. Candiota added an ace, one of eight on the night for D&E, for a 9-7 lead. The Senators maintained the advantage and surged ahead 2-0 with consecutive kills to end the frame.
 
West Virginia Wesleyan started the third set in a flurry, taking leads of 4-2 and 7-3 before D&E once again answered with a big surge. Seven-straight points changed the complexion of the set and pushed D&E in front at 10-7.
 
Wesleyan battled back once again, tying the third frame at 14, before moving in front 21-20. The Senators responded with five of the final seven points to end the set and secure the sweep. Magallon fired in three kills in the final push for the Senators.
 
Davis & Elkins will host a first-round playoff matchup on Tuesday, with full seedings, opponents, locations and times to be determined by the league.
