D&E Baseball Splits Saturday Matinee at West Liberty

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins baseball responded with a game two rally in a doubleheader split with West Liberty on Saturday afternoon.

Davis & Elkins (2-4) was playing in its first road action of the season, while West Liberty (6-7) was making its home debut.

GAME ONE – West Liberty 4, Davis & Elkins 0
Davis & Elkins could not crack WLU hurler Juston Pennybacker, who fired a two-hit complete game shutout for the Hilltoppers.

John Arcaro and Troy McMillion posted a knock each for the Senators, while Max Larimore gutted out 5.1 innings on the mound with seven strikeouts.

WLU plated its first run courtesy of a D&E passed ball for a 1-0 lead. The Hilltoppers doubled the lead in the sixth after a D&E error as part of a three-run sixth inning.

Larimore scattered seven hits before Carlos Texeira entered for the final two outs.

GAME TWO – Davis & Elkins 3, West Liberty 2
The Hilltoppers carried a 2-0 shutout into the sixth until the Senators pushed across three two-out runs to grab the lead back.

On the mound, Jeremy Torres, Rory Burke and Carlos Vizcaya combined to allow just two hits and keep the Hilltoppers off the scoreboard over the last five innings. Torres was strong in five innings of work, allowing just four hits and two earned runs with four strikeouts.

Burke and Vizcaya held WLU without a hit over the final two innings, providing the D&E offense the opportunity it needed.

John Arcaro singled home Ryan Savitt in the sixth for the Senators first run. Luis Diaz cracked a double, plating Arcaro and Cole Hitch for the 3-2 edge.

Five different Senators collected a hit in the victory.
