ELKINS, W.Va. -- The 15th-ranked Davis & Elkins men's soccer team broke through once again the second half on its way to an exciting 2-0 shutout of West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday evening at a breezy Nuttall Field.
With the game scoreless into the 84th minute, the mounting pressure for Davis & Elkins (4-1) finally resulted in a goal.
Anderson Marroquin made a one-on-one move to finish off a
David Jara pass for a 1-0 lead.
Minutes later,
Daniel Cerezo finished off a well-played pass from a slicing Marroquin to quickly double the lead and deflate the Bobcats.
D&E held a decisive 11-1 edge in shots, placing seven on target, compared to just one for WVWC (2-3).
Matteo Ghezzi launched five shots on the afternoon for D&E.
Jeremy Coste posted his second shutout of the season. The Senators had several looks in the opening half before the second half outburst took place.
Davis & Elkins returns to action on Friday, April 2 at Frostburg State for a 7:00 PM matchup.
