ELKINS, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins used a big fifth inning in game two, taking the lead for good in the nightcap and handing head coach
Tim Miller his first career victory in the process on Sunday afternoon at Harpertown Field.
Davis & Elkins (1-3) fell 5-3 in the first game before battling back for the first win of the season in game two.
Zachary McGillan was strong on the mound as the game two starter kept D&E within striking distance until the offense came through.
Chase DeGrood finished with three hits on the afternoon as
John Arcaro added three knocks of his own.
Carlos Vizcaya closed out the second game with a scoreless final inning against the heart of the Frostburg State batting order.
Game One
Frostburg State (3-7) plated three runs in the sixth inning of game one to take the lead before holding on for the 5-3 win.
The Senators could muster just two hits on the afternoon, but scored the first run of the day as
Zachary Higgins crossed home on a passed ball.
Max Larimore scored on a throwing error as the Senators trimmed the deficit to 3-2 before Ryan Roell delivered a two-run homer for the Bobcats.
Cole Hitch cracked a sacrifice fly to right, plating Arcaro for the final run of the opening game.
Kade Kozak made the start on the mound in game run, tossing 5.2 innings and allowing three earned runs with three strikeouts.
Game Two
Falling behind 2-0 in the nightcap, the Senators reversed the trend with a big inning of their own in the fifth. Frostburg led 2-0 before
Ryan Savitt scored on a throwing error.
Higgins reached base on a fielder's choice as two runs came across to move D&E in front by a 3-2 score. Arcaro capped the scoring in the frame with a single to third, pushing Higgins across Homeplate for a 4-2 advantage.
A Frostburg double brought the visitors to within 4-3 in the sixth. Vizcaya entered in relief of McGillan and sent the Bobcats down in order, including two full counts, to close out the victory.
