ELKINS, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins men's soccer scored twice in the second half to battle back for a 2-1 home victory against West Liberty on Friday night.
Yavi Ortiz had the game-winning marker in the 81st minute, slipping by the Hilltopper defense and scoring off a feed from
Sebastian Ongkowijaya.
James Gill answered the opening goal of the game for the Hilltoppers with a strike in the 66th minute to knot the score at one.
D&E held a 14-5 edge in shots, placing 10 on target.
Christian Carranza had the assist on the first goal of the evening for the Senators.
D&E was without some familiar faces, battling injury and suspension, while receiving contributions from throughout the lineup.
Vitor Otsuka scored off a rebound attempt in the 23rd minute to hand the visiting Hilltoppers a 1-0 edge.
Ivan Franco and
Kenshiro Yamaguchi had shot attempts denied prior to the intermission as D&E pushed for the the tying tally.
Anderson Marroquin and
Matteo Ghezzi opened the second half with scoring chances for D&E before Gill netted the equalizer after entering as a substitution.
Josh Yeaman had one final chance for the Hilltoppers, but
Jeremy Coste was up to the task and made the save in goal.
Davis & Elkins returns to the field on Friday, March 26 for a 5:00 PM home matchup against West Virginia Wesleyan.
