ATHENS, W. Va. – Davis & Elkins had scoreless stretches at the beginning of each half in an 82-47 loss to Concord on Saturday afternoon at the Carter Center in Mountain East Conference (MEC) action.
Jamiyah Johnson led the Senators once again behind a double-double effort of 14 points and 13 rebounds, finishing as the lone D&E player in double figures.
Sydney Nestor followed with nine points and four rebounds.
Madison May stuffed the stat sheet for Concord with 19 points, seven rebounds and seven assists as five players finished in double figures. Riley Fitzwater was close behind with 18 points and Jazz Blankenship added 12 points for the Mountain Lions.
In total, Concord outscored the Senators 43-13 over the final 20 minutes. Dealing with several cold spells offensively, the Senators ended the game making just one of their final 10 shots from the field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Concord opened the game a perfect 7-of-7 from the field to take a quick 16-4 lead just after the initial media timeout of the first quarter. Jessica Eadsforth-Yates converted a much-needed three at the 3:57 mark of the first to slice the Concord lead to 18-9.
- Johnson made a layup inside and Tailyn Silver swished three foul shots as D&E trailed 21-16 following a 10-3 scoring run. Allie Taylor lined up a corner trey as D&E continued to stay within striking distance despite the slow start.
- Concord responded to start the second quarter with a 6-2 run, leading by around seven points most of the quarter before Johnson converted a layup for the final bucket of the half with 53 seconds left.
- The Mountain Lions stormed out of the gate to start the second half, scoring the first six points for a 45-34 lead to force a D&E timeout. The early stretch was part of a larger 14-0 run for Concord in the third with D&E held scoreless for nearly the first seven minutes of the half. The offensive struggles continued for D&E in the third, which made just one field goal in the period.
- Kirsten Doleman worked inside for a layup with 8:07 to play in the fourth, but D&E endured another scoreless stretch as Concord pushed its edge to 70-44 at the final media timeout. Nestor answered a Concord three with one of her own after a kickout pass from Johnson, but the Mountain Lion starters were pulled shortly after as Concord melted the rest of the clock away.
GAME NOTES
- Johnson kept her streak of double-doubles intact, posting her 10th consecutive game with at least 10 points and 10 rebounds.
- Foul shooting was a saving grace for D&E in the first half to combat the hot offensive start from the Mountain Lions. The Senators went 11-15 (73.3%) from the line in the opening 20 minutes, while Concord made all five of its foul shots during that time.
- Aside from four foul shots, Taylor made the first field goal for D&E in the third quarter on a stick-back with under three minutes remaining.
- Concord collected a key conference win to keep the Mountain Lions right near the top of the league standings.
- Eadsforth-Yates had two of the Senators' four made three-pointers.
- Concord won the battle on the boards, 38-33.
