ELKINS, W. Va. - Davis & Elkins took a three point advantage into the final frame, but could not overcome a 27-12 outburst by Charleston (W. Va.) over the final 10 minutes in a hard-fought 65-53 defeat to the Golden Eagles on Saturday afternoon inside the McDonnell Center.
Jamiyah Johnson recorded her eighth straight double-double, leading all scorers with 20 points, while controlling the glass with a game-high 15 rebounds.
Sydney Nestor pitched in 12 points, while adding four assists and seven rebounds.
Peyton Mohler finished with nine points and four assists, while
Rachel Bolyard led D&E with three steals.
Charleston placed three players in double figures en route to its ninth consecutive victory, powered by a team-high 18 points and seven rebounds from Anna Hayton. Brooklyn Panell and Dakota Reeves had 12 points each, while Megan Haines chipped in eight points and six assists in 28 minutes off the bench.
D&E held a big edge on the glass, outrebounding the Golden Eagles 42-27. Charleston notched 27 points from their bench, while D&E had just three points come from beyond its starting lineup.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- D&E opened the contest on a 7-2 swing following a layup from Johnson. A fastbreak layup from Peyton Mohler made it 11-6 and Johnson converted a pair of foul shots to give the Senators a 13-6 lead following a choppy first quarter.
- Two layups from Panell opened a 6-0 surge for the visitors and Hayton tied the game at 17 with a lay-in at the 6:23 mark of the second quarter. Nestor canned an elbow jumper to push the D&E edge back to seven before Charleston cut its deficit to four at the intermission.
- Consecutive buckets for D&E expanded the lead back to six with eight minutes left in the third. Charleston moved back in front following a 7-0 run that spanned nearly three minutes of the quarter.
- Allie Taylor took a Rachel Bolyard pass and converted a three to move the score to 41-36, but Charleston had the final basket of the quarter at the 1:07 mark as D&E maintained a 41-38 lead.
- Johnson scored the first bucket of the final quarter just 20 seconds in, but the Golden Eagles took control from there with 11 of the next 14 points to surge ahead 49-47 with 6:38 remaining. Charleston did not trail the rest of the way, eventually stretching its advantage to double figures at the foul line.
GAME NOTES
- Johnson recorded her seventh game of the season with at least 20 points, securing her 10th double-double of the season in the process.
- Charleston kept pace in the MEC standings with its conference-best ninth straight victory. The Golden Eagles are tied with Notre Dame (Ohio) with a 7-1 mark in the MEC.
- Jay Kilpatrick grabbed at least five rebounds for the sixth time this season. She took an inadvertent elbow in the fourth quarter, forcing her to exit the game before later returning.
- The Senators were without one of their key players as Jessica Eadsforth-Yates missed the game due to injury.
- Charleston collected 23 points off turnovers.
