GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
KEY SEQUENCE
  • Davis & Elkins came out the aggressor, owning play early on, and that hard work paid off with a quick goal. Nariana Nealy turned upfield to play a tremendous touch pass that found a cutting Asheli Freed, who outraced the defense off the left side and uncorked a shot to put the Senators in front 1-0 at the 9:16 mark in the first half. After that, the Senators were off and running, and employed a combination of potent offense along with strong defense and goalkeeping in the 4-1 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Senators jumped in front early on Freed's eighth career goal, but Caldwell countered with a couple of corner opportunities at 20:44 and 20:15. Davis & Elkins kept up the offensive surge, however, and Nealy found her way into position for a looping cross from Freed, firing a shot that doubled the Senators lead at 2-0.
  • Olivia Aldrich broke free and buried a rebound chance to make it 2-1, but the Senators responded quickly with a goal by Angelina Horan. Horan rose up to crack a header into the left side of the cage off another stellar corner ball by Freed at 35:27 in the first half.
  • Davis & Elkins relied on its defense in the second half, limiting Caldwell as the teams began to slow the pace of play down in the second frame. Nealy cashed in for her second goal of the season after stepping away from a defender and launching a long shot for a 4-1 lead.

GAME NOTES
  • The season-opening win is the first for head coach Declan McGill, who took over the program back in January.
  • Katie Clarke picked up the win in goal, stopping four shots in 90 minutes of action.
  • After scoring just 12 goals during the 2018 season, the Senators pounced for three in the first half and four goals in the game.
  • Freed impressed in Sunday's season opener, recording a goal on five shots and a pair of assists in the victory.
  • Nealy, who also had a goal called back on an offsides play, fired a game-high four shots while Caldwell was able to record eight shots as a team.

UP NEXT
  • Davis & Elkins has a chance to rest before its next contest, returning to action on Saturday, September 14 against Walsh.
  • Kickoff is slated for noon from Nuttall Field and the contest will have live video and live stats.
