GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
KEY SEQUENCE
  • Strong defensive play highlighted most of the afternoon between Davis & Elkins and Glenville State, with neither side able to get on the scoresheet in regulation. That all changed when Asheli Freed uncorked a left-footed shot that looped over the head of Glenville State goalie, breaking a scoreless tie in overtime for the game-winner at the 93:58 mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Scoring chances dotted the first half for the Senators, who maintained possession in the offensive end of the field for much of the opening 45 minutes. Nariana Nealy played a strong first half, launching a shot that was stopped just over two minutes into the contest before she was just nudged from a one-one-one chance later in the frame. Maria Cabal fired one beyond the crossbar of a set piece and later had an attempt denied to the lower left side of the cage.
  • Asheli Freed dribbled for a shot that was blocked and Glenville State tested Sierra Curtis for the first time with an attempt 32 minutes into the first half. The Pioneers recorded another shot attempt that missed high and the senators countered back with a shot just over one minute later. Freed and Tamsin Med-Gill closed the first half with shots for the Senators as the teams went into the intermission scoreless.
  • Each side traded scoring chances to start the second half, with Leighana Weaver and Nealy recording shots that were saved at 47:59 and 48:32. Curtis gobbled up two more GSC scoring chances before Lourdes Moreno had a shot saved at the 53:50 mark in the second half. Brianna Rose had one of the best looks of the day, taking a cross a labeling a shot to the lower left side that was stopped with just under three minutes remaining in regulation.
  • Freed converted the game-winner after D&E worked it from beyond midfield to the offensive zone. She stepped in from the right side of the field and converted the left-footed strike to end the game.

GAME NOTES
  • D&E opened the conference matchup with a 9-3 advantage in shots during the first half. The senators put four shots on target in the opening 45 minutes, while the Pioneers mustered one shot on goal during that span.

  • Freed has recorded five or more shots in four games this season, including five shots in Sunday's win.
  • This is the Senators second shutout victory of the season after opening conference play with a 1-0 triumph against Charleston (W. Va.) on September 19.
  • Nealy was another strong offensive threat for the senators with four shots in the game, including three shots on goal. In total, four different players had multiple shots on goal in the victory.
