KEY SEQUENCE
  • In a morning matchup with plenty of offensive chances for each side, the Senators battled back from a 2-0 deficit at the half to tie the game on a Nariana Nealy marker in the 68th minute. Sierra Curtis and the defense held a potent Daemen offense off the board through two overtime frames, as the Senators left New York with a draw against the unbeaten Wildcats on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Daemen rolled to a 2-0 lead with two first half goals scored about six minutes apart. Maria Cabal fired a shot wide before Lisa Milliken had an attempt blocked as D&E ended the opening frame with some pressure on the offensive end.
  • Asheli Freed put the Senators on the board early in the second half with her fourth goal of the season, slicing the Wildcats lead to 2-1. Freed launched a shot wide moments later before Samantha Cozzolino stepped into an attempt that was blocked. After an offside against Davis & Elkins squandered an offensive opportunity, Nealy delivered with a strike to the left side of the cage, tying the score at two.
  • Alex Cantarelli had a shot denied by Damen goalkeeper Maddie Flores at 73:36 as the Senators continued to control the pace of play towards the latter stages of regulation. Nealy was close to netting the go-ahead goal off a corner chance with just under four minutes remaining, ultimately sending the shot over the crossbar.
  • Daemen had the opening chance in the first overtime with a blocked shot before the Senators answered with a final look from Lisa Milliken that was denied in the second overtime frame.

GAME NOTES
  • Freed flicked in her fourth goal of the season, but the initial attempt came on a missed penalty kick chance. She is just two goals shy from matching last year's total.
  • Nealy had one of her strongest offensive outings of the season, recording six shots with two on target.
  • The Senators fired 20 or more shots in a game for the first time since the 2017 season, when Davis & Elkins recorded 21 shots at Alderson Broaddus.
  • Nealy and Freed have been the goal-scoring catalysts for the D&E offense this season, combining for seven tallies in five games.
  • Jamie Boyer fired 10 shots in the contest, placing just two on goal and scoring once for Daemen.

UP NEXT
  • Davis & Elkins continues its road trip, jumping back into conference play on Sunday, September 29 to face Glenville State.
