GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
KEY SEQUENCE
  • An aggressive defensive play from Miguel Rodriguez resulted in a yellow card and a free kick chance for Frostburg State from about 15 yards out on the right sideline. The looping restart went to the far post before falling in front where the Bobcats pounced on the ball for a 2-0 lead in the second half. A final charge came up short for Davis & Elkins late in the second half as Frostburg was able to hold on to its initial 3-0 edge.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Offensive chances were few and far between for either side, with the first half heavily contested in the midfield area. Tamino Brown found a lane in the left side of the box and converted the shot to hand Frostburg a 1-0 lead. Sebastian Ongkowijaya had a shot attempt blocked that led to a corner kick for the Senators.
  • Frostburg doubled its lead in the second half with a goal that followed a yellow card to Miguel Rodriguez. The ensuing free kick looped to a Bobcat before settling down in the middle to the waiting foot of Lovet Cheg.
  • Davis & Elkins maintained possession after falling behind but was unable to connect on anything in the offensive zone. Felipe Polycarpo took the space available to him for a long shot in the 67th minute that was gobbled up by Frostburg keeper Joel Assal.
  • Daniel Cerezo dribbled down the middle of the field and had the ball poked away at the last second on a strong defensive play before Frostburg countered up the field and chipped the ball past an aggressive Everton Carvalho and into the open net for the 3-0 advantage.
  • Luca Compagnucci put an end to the shutout with a goal in the 79th minute that was rocketed to the left side of the goal as the Senators began buzzing. Charles Mavronis stepped into a shot that just missed to the right side in the 87th minute. Victor Pires added another goal as D&E continued to kick its game into another gear late, cutting the Frostburg lead to 3-2 with just under two minutes remaining in regulation. Daniel Cerezo was credited with the assist on the Senators second goal.

GAME NOTES
  • Compagnucci recorded his second goal in as many games after scoring last Saturday.
  • Pires added his second goal of the 2019 season with his first coming against Charleston (W. Va.) on September 19.
  • The start time of the game was pushed back 40 minutes as Davis & Elkins was stuck in traffic en route to Frostburg.
  • Davis & Elkins was without the services of Matteo Ghezzi, who missed the conference matchup after accumulating a red card last Saturday against Salem (W. Va.).
  • Wednesday's matchup pitted the two new members of the Mountain East Conference against each other for the first time since joining the league. Frostburg made the move to NCAA DII from division three this fall after competing in the Capital Athletic Conference.

UP NEXT
  • D&E returns to the pitch on Thursday, October 3 at West Virginia Wesleyan.
  • Game time is slated for 7:00 PM.
