GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
KEY SEQUENCE
  • After quickly falling behind, the Senators answered with the equalizer as Jens Ovreseth finished a cross from Charles Mavronis to tie the matchup at one.  It was the first of three goals on the night for the Senators, who took control in the second half en route to a 3-1 nonconference win Saturday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Salem connected with an early goal for a 1-0 edge, but Davis & Elkins countered with the Ovreseth tally at the 26:59 mark. A string of three shots from Daniel Cerezo, James Gill and Nicholas Burnz gave the Senators more quality looks in the opening half.
  • Davis & Elkins opened the second half with the go-ahead goal around seven minutes in. After a Salem foul handed the Senators a set piece just beyond the 18-yard box, Matteo Ghezzi stepped into a ball from the slot and converted for a 2-1 lead.
  • Two yellow and two red cards highlighted the physical and aggressive play in the second half, as each side picked up a pair of cards each. Luca Compagnucci added the insurance marker, racing up the middle of the field and beating his defender for a goal and a 3-1 lead.

GAME NOTES
  • Davis & Elkins took over following the opening goal by the Tigers, outshooting the visitors by an 15-4 margin.
  • Five different players have now scored a goal for Davis & Elkins in 2019.
  • Everton Carvalho, who took a nasty spill in the second half, remained in the game and made one save in goal.
  • With the Hall of Fame induction ceremony earlier in the day, class of 2019 representative Mick Riordan ('81) stuck around the watch the Senators along with several other alumni.
