CALIFORNIA, Pa. – Davis & Elkins wrapped up its weekend at the Vulcan Invitational with a split on Saturday, earning a 3-1 win against Lake Erie before suffering a 3-0 setback to Daemen.
The Senators dispatched former G-MAC opponent Lake Erie in set scores of 25-18, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-21. Meanwhile, Daemen emerged with set wins of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-22 in the second match of the day for the Senators.
Kaitlyn LaCour led the way once again for D&E against LEC, notching 19 kills and hitting .314 on the morning. She added 17 digs, while
Luann O'Kane had 12 kills on 30 total attacks for the Senators.
Raleighanne Weaver recorded seven assisted blocks while
Sarah Warren dished out 46 assists.
D&E took control after Lake Erie tied the match at one, recording victories in the final two sets in convincing fashion.
The Senators ran into some stiff competition in the form of 2018 NCAA Tournament qualifier Daemen in game two. Despite smacking seven aces, Davis & Elkins couldn't overcome the tandem of Allison Post and Jenn Heritz, who combined for 23 kills for the Wildcats.
Weaver had a team-high nine kills in the second match for D&E and four players had 12 or more digs. It was the first sweep the Senators have endured this season.
The Senators return home next week, hosting the Davis & Elkins Tri-Match. D&E faces Bloomsburg (3:00 PM) and Alderson Broaddus (7:00 PM) for its home opener inside The McDonnell Center.
