ELKINS, W.Va - Senators follow Ohio Valley University closely throughout both games, but drop G-MAC doubleheader in the end this afternoon on Harpertown Field.
The first game didn't start very well for D&É, who allowed four runs, unearned, right in the top of the first inning.
Davis & Elkins picked up its game in the third inning, loading bases, and scoring three runs.
Brandon Plummer hit a sacrifice fly to score Chase Degrood. Right after that,
Ryan Savitt doubled to left field, scoring
Anthony Laney and
Andre Ramirez, to make it 3-4.
Things only got interesting again in the sixth inning, when seven runs were scored, four for the visitors, and three for D&E.
Grayson Caldwell scored when
Guiseppe Orlando singled to first base, unearned.
Anthony Laney once again got a good hit, and scored both
Tanner Wickham and Orlando, when he singled to left field.
D&E still scored in the bottom of the seventh with Savitt, who stole second base, when
Troy McMillion doubled down the left-field line. However, the runs scored were not enough to stop the visitors who also kept scoring and won the first battle 7-9.
Brent McMillion got five strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched.
Kade Kozak got two in 1.0 inning, and
Max Larimore pitched for 0.1, adding one strikeout.
The second game was tougher for D&E, as the visitors scored six runs in the first two innings.
The response came in the bottom of the third when
Guiseppe Orlando hit a sacrifice fly to score Plummer. Chase Degrood batted two runs in after doubling to center field and scoring
Dominic Bianchini and Wickham, cutting the deficit by half.
The Fighting Scots scored one more in the fourth. However, in the following inning, Davis & Elkins loaded bases to score three more runs and make it 6-7.
Wickham scored Bianchini, Pass doubled down the right-field line to score Orlando, and Savitt scored Pass on a sacrifice fly.
The game went scoreless until the ninth inning, when the visitors managed to score six runs. D&E could only score one with
Corey Mays after Savitt tripled up the right field, ending the game at 7-13.
Carlos Texeira,
Marcos Feria,
Christopher Baris,
Justin Worley, and Zach Higgins pitched for D&E, getting a total of nine strikeouts.
The Senators will return to action next Friday to play a doubleheader against Trevecca Nazarene University on the road. The games are set for 12:00 and 2:00 PM.
