ELKINS, W.Va. - Senators win their first G-MAC doubleheader against Ohio Valley University this afternoon at home.
In a ten-innings first game, things started a little slow for the Davis & Elkins, and the visitors started off scoring two runs in the second inning.
The game went scoreless until the bottom of the sixth, when Anthoney Laney singled to left field and scored both
Shawn Pass and Chase Degrood, tying the game 2-2.
None of the teams were able to convert their hits into scoring runs and a tenth inning had to be played. When D&E loaded the bases, Degrood came up to single up the right field, scoring
Ryan Savitt for the 3-2 win.
Marcos Feria,
Max Larimore, and
Kade Kozak pitched for D&E. Feria in the first two, Larimore in the next four, getting three strikeouts, and Kozak in the last four, adding four more strikeouts.
The second game was even better for the Senators. The Fighting Scots started ahead again in the top of the third scoring two runs, but D&E responded in the same inning scoring four runs.
Davis & Elkins loaded the bases with a great bunt by
Tanner Wickham, and
Guiseppe Orlando hit a sacrifice fly to score
Troy McMillion. The second run came when Chase Degrood singled up the center field to score
Ryan Savitt.
Once again, D&E loaded bases and
Shawn Pass singled to left field, scoring Wickham, unearned. Degrood scored the last run of the inning to make it 4-2.
After that, the Senators scored one more run in the fourth, when Degrood scored Orlando. The last two runs happened when Laney doubled down the left-field line, scoring both
Justin Worley, and Degrood.
The visitors still scored three more runs but the Senators held them to secure the 7-5 win.
Pass pitched for three innings, collecting five strikeouts. Worley also had five strikeouts, pitching for two innings.
Brandon Plummer pitched for 1.2 innings, counting one strikeout, and
Brent McMillion closed it off for the D&E.
The Senators will come back to action for another home doubleheader against OVU tomorrow. The games are set for 12:00 and 2:00 PM at Harpertown Field.
