ELKINS -
The visiting Alderson Broaddus University Battlers took two close games over the Davis & Elkins College Senators baseball team on Wednesday at Harpertown Field.
The games were initially scheduled to be played in Philippi, but moved to Elkins due to field maintenance at AB, while the Battlers remained the home team.
In the top of the first inning, D&E scored two runs to take an early lead.
Ryan Savitt drove in
Tanner Wickham, and
Chase DeGrood scored on
Anthony Laney's sacrifice fly.
The Battlers would get the two runs back in the bottom of the first off starter
Max Larimore. Larimore would settle in to pitch five solid innings, allowing four hits and two runs, one unearned.
Chase DeGrood, who went 3-4 with 2 runs and an RBI, started the sixth inning with a big solo home run, his third of the year. AB would tie the game in the bottom of the sixth, and led off the seventh with a go-ahead home run to lead 4-3.
The Battlers would score three runs in the eighth, and win by a final score of 7-3.
In Game 2, starting pitcher
Shawn Pass threw a very strong game, going the distance in a 6 inning performance. Pass only allowed five hits, and two earned runs.
Alderson Broaddus took a 3-0 lead into the top of the 7th, but the Senators started an exciting rally.
Andre Ramirez tagged a pitch for his first career home run, clearing deep center field to cut the lead to 3-1.
Guiseppe Orlando then reached with a single, and
Tanner Wickham got his second hit of the day.
Chase DeGrood reached first to score Orlando and make it a 3-2 game.
Unfortunately, the rally came up just short as the Senators weren't able to get the tying run home, falling 3-2.
The Senators will play a four-game series against Ohio Dominican at home this weekend. First game is scheduled for a 2 PM start on Friday.
