OWENSBORO, KY. - Jamiyah Johnson's 20 points couldn't stop the Senators from losing to conference-leading Kentucky Wesleyan in a close game on Thursday, 66-62.
The Senators started off strong, building up a good advantage with Jamiyah Johnson scoring eight points in the first period of the game, finishing the quarter at 15-8.
In the second period, Kentucky Wesleyan rallied to take the lead, aided by a couple of three-pointers, making it 34-25.
After the halftime break, it was the Senators' turn to spark a rally. Kentucky Wesleyan held a small four point lead halfway through the quarter but pulled away to close the third quarter up 51-42.
D&E outscored the home team in the last period. Colleena Burdock scored two points to make it a two point game with three seconds to go. However, Kentucky Wesleyan would finish it off scoring two free-throws, ending the game at 66-62.
In addition to her 20 points, Johnson also collected 16 rebounds in a double-double for the Senators.
Davis & Elkins shot 37 percent in today's match and finish the game with a 76.2 percentage from the free-throw line.
The Senators will return to action this Saturday when they head to play Trevecca Nazarene University in another G-MAC battle. The game is set for 3:00 PM CT in Nashville, TN.
