ELKINS, W. Va. - Davis & Elkins used a big third quarter in the scoring department to try and chip away, but could only trim the deficit to single digits late in a 70-59 home loss to Notre Dame (Ohio) on Thursday night inside the McDonnell Center.
Taking the floor as the only women's basketball game in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) on Thursday, both teams struggled behind the arc despite shooting well in the second half. Davis & Elkins (1-8, 1-4 MEC) was once again stewarded by
Jamiyah Johnson, who notched another double-double with 24 points and 17 rebounds.
Sydney Nestor added 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Senators along with three steals.
Peyton Mohler dropped eight points and
Jay Kilpatrick added six with three assists.
Siena Adachi paced the Falcons on Thursday behind 20 points and two rebounds, while Jada Monroe added 12 more. Jessie Stout was a force inside with 10 points and 17 rebounds, while Jennifer Oduho notched seven points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Notre Dame (8-1, 4-1 MEC) opened a big first half lead, taking a 41-19 edge into the locker room before the Senators answered with a 24-14 advantage in the third period. The teams went back and forth in the final quarter, but the Falcons maintained their early advantage to pick up the victory.
- Nestor converted the stick-back to trim the deficit to 10 in the third quarter, but Monroe raced ahead for a fastbreak to quickly push that lead back to 12 at the end of three.
- Johnson made it a 10-point game with a jumper at 6:28 and Kilpatrick sliced the deficit to nine at 4:51. Johnson capped a series of offensive rebounds with a putback at 3:08, making the score 61-54, but that was as close as the Senators would come after the Falcons responded with the next five points to balloon the lead to 12.
GAME NOTES
- Nestor tied a season-high in scoring with 13 points, previously set back on November 23 at Fairmont State. She also set a new career-high in the rebounding column, pulling down 12.
- Johnson continues to churn out double-doubles for the Senators, producing her fourth consecutive.
- Despite being outscored by one (16-15), Davis & Elkins is outscoring opponents by a 112-111 in the fourth quarter of games this season.
- Notre Dame (Ohio) has played just one home game this season and pushes its road record to 6-0 to remain atop the MEC standings.
- Marina Adachi was clutch down the stretch, converting three of her last four shots for seven points.
