INDIANA, Pa. - Davis & Elkins dropped its 2019-20 season opener to the ninth-ranked IUP Crimson Hawks, 81-52, on Saturday afternoon as part of the PSAC/MEC Challenge at the Memorial Field House.
The Crimson Hawks raced out to a 23-7 edge after the opening quarter and didn't look back, taking a 49-18 lead into the intermission. 
Jay Kilpatrick posted a team-high 12 points, converting on 6-of-7 foul shots, while 
Jamiyah Johnson added 11 points and pulled down six rebounds for Davis & Elkins (0-1). Eight of Johnson's points came before halftime as she converted 50% of her field goals in the opening 45 minutes. 
Natalie Myers paced a hot-shooting IUP (1-0) team with 22 points, while Maura D'Anna snagged eight rebounds for the hosts. D&E shot 32.0% from the floor but could not contain the Crimson Hawks, which shot 49% for the game and 46% from beyond the arc. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
	- IUP jumped ahead quickly, scoring the first nine points before Johnson got the Senators on the board just over four minutes into the game. 
- The Crimson Hawks expanded their lead, pushing their early advantage to as many as 16 points in the opening quarter. Johnson hit the Senators first field goal of the second quarter just over six minutes in before a three from Courtney Alexander in the second quarter made it a 32-point game.
- IUP maintained its comfortable lead in the second half. 
GAME NOTESÂ
	- Peyton Mohler notched eight points in her collegiate debut, converting three field goals in 22 minutes off the bench. She led all D&E bench players in scoring.
- The Senators will face the first and the worst, at least as it related to the PSAC Preseason Poll. IUP was picked to win the PSAC West, while Mansfield was picked last in the PSAC East. 
- Jessica Eadsforth-Yates made a pair of three's and was the only D&E player to convert more than one shot from beyond the arc.
